Francisco & Mary: A love forged in service, lost in war

Corporal Francisco Rodriguez and Corporal Mary Smith were two young soldiers whose lives—and love—ended in a Dystopian missile strike during a border skirmish in the Eastern Zone. Though they came from different worlds, their story became a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and the human cost of defending Utopia.

Francisco was the son of newly naturalized refugees who had fled Dystopia’s tyranny and embraced Utopia with gratitude and resolve. Mary was born into the Wolf Clan, an Indigenous tribal nation whose people had survived centuries of displacement under Empire rule and now stood proudly as cultural stewards of Utopia.

They met during basic training at Fort Unity, where Francisco’s quiet determination and Mary’s fierce discipline drew them together. They endured the drills, the simulations, and the relentless lectures from their DrillBot. By graduation, they weren’t just comrades—they were inseparable.

“She taught me to track drones. I taught her to make coffee that didn’t taste like engine oil,” Francisco wrote to his sister, Margarita.

Their friendship deepened into love. Francisco joined the Commandos, specializing in covert operations. Mary trained as a drone master with dreams of commanding aerial fleets. They signed a cohabitation agreement and were preparing to move in together.

While manning a border outpost in the Eastern Zone, a Dystopian missile struck without warning. Both were killed instantly. Their deaths sparked national mourning and renewed debate about border security and the price of peace. Stories of their service, their heritage, and their love spread quickly across Utopia, turning them into symbols of unity across clans, cultures, and communities.
