Gulag vs Utopia: BuddyBot queries across regimes

Empire, once a sprawling communist superstate with imperial ambitions and an unhealthy enthusiasm for invading neighbors, is now best known for its revolving door of dictators, chronic economic stagnation, and an ALL‑CAPS constitution that reads like a 900‑page revenge fantasy. At its height, Empire ruled over a patchwork of unwilling territories—including the now‑independent Republic of Utopia and two neighboring states that Utopians pointedly refer to as ‘Dystopia’ and ‘Gulag,’ rather than their real names, which are far too ridiculous to remember. Empire’s reign was marked by a series of brutal wars, war crimes, and a foreign policy best summarized as ‘Why not invade’.

After decades of resistance, the oppressed territories seceded in what historians call ‘The Great Liberation War’, and Empire still refers to as the ‘Regrettable Temporary Secession’. To this day, it clings to the delusion it will one day reclaim them. In fact, the phrase ‘RECLAIM LOST TERRITORIES’ is mentioned 73 times in its constitution, including once in the table of contents.

The country is a mosaic of ethnic and religious groups, most of whom would relocate immediately if given the option. A succession of authoritarian tyrants has governed it, each enjoying an average life expectancy of 2.4 years. Separatist movements are everywhere and regional warlords often control more territory than the central government.

Empire does not maintain relations with Utopia. Trade is minimal, travel is limited, and both sides adhere to an unwritten agreement to leave each other be. Utopia is fortunate to have no land border with Empire, meaning any future attempt to ‘restore its glory’ will require marching through either Dystopia or Gulag first—an inconvenience for all involved.
