Community Hubs: Utopia’s answer to “I’m bored”

Every neighborhood in Utopia has a Community Hub, a lively, 24/7 gathering place where the humans eat, play, connect, and debate the merits of tofu lasagna. Hubs combat isolation and promote friendship and happiness. They are where birthdays happen, friendships form, and someone’s aunt always brings too much chili.

Each hub serves 500 to 5,000 households. Architecture varies by region, but every hub is built for heavy use.

At the center is the Great Dining Hall, offering free coffee, tea, snacks, and simple breakfasts. The Food Committee organizes potlucks and cultural dinners, gardeners donate produce, and the leftover fridge, decorated with children’s art, is a beloved source of mystery lunches.

Hubs host concerts, trivia nights, dances, debates, yoga, movies, and community groups of every kind, with lounges, study zones, and enough jigsaw puzzles to test the patience of saints. Outdoors, they spill into parks, gardens, playgrounds, rinks, and sports fields. They also mark life’s big moments: graduations, cohabitation celebrations, memorials, and monthly citizenship ceremonies (with cake and pickled herring).

Hubs are open to everyone, including parolees and foreign visitors. Civility is mandatory. Racism, threats, violence, theft, and hateful conduct lead to suspension or banning.

In short, hubs are where Utopia happens. Come for the porridge. Stay for the people. And maybe finish that puzzle.
